SUMMARY OF PROPOSAL 41055 DR. NOBUYUKI KAWAI RIKEN SAITAMA JAPAN 351-01 WAKO 2-1 HIROSAWA E-mail: NKAWAI@POSTMAN.RIKEN.GO.JP Tel: 048-462-1111 EXT.3226 Fax: 048-462-4640 Medium: 4GBDAT Subject: X-RAY BINARIES Title: SS 433: TOTAL COVERAGE OF 162-D PRECESSION PHASE IN 4 YEARS Abstract: This is the fifth and the last in the series of proposals to sample over the entire 162-d precession phases of SS 433 in four years. Since PV until AO-3 observations we have covered the precession phase range of 0.98 - 0.65. In AO-4, we proposed to make observations at around phase 0.8 to complete the uniform coverage over the entire precession phase. Furthermore, we plan to have simultanous observations with XTE to obtain the wide-band X-ray spectrum from 0.5 keV up to 100 keV for the first time. The binary phase -0.15, 0.0 and +0.15 will be sampled, and the high-temperature region close to the source of the jet will be studied.
