SUMMARY OF PROPOSAL 41092 MR HIDEHIRO KANEDA UNIVERSITY OF TOKYO TOKYO JAPAN 113 BUNKYO-KU 7-3-1 HONGO E-mail: KANEDA@MIRANDA.PHYS.S.U-TOKYO.AC.JP Tel: 03-3812-2111 EX4173 Fax: 03-3812-6938 Medium: 2.5GB8MM Subject: NORMAL GALAXIES Title: INVERSE-COMPTON X-RAYS FROM LOBES OF THE RADIO GALAXY NGC 612 Abstract: We propose to observe the radio lobes of the galaxy NGC 612 to detect the inverse-Compton (IC) X-rays from the lobe. By estimating the flux of IC X-rays and comparing with the radio flux of synchrotron radiation, we can determine the magnetic field strength in the lobe without any assumptions. Because we can also estimate the electron energy density in the lobe from the flux of the IC component itself, it will be confirmed whether the energy equipartition between particles and fields will hold in the lobe or not. Through this observation, we will also discuss on the pressure balance between the lobes and the galactic haloes.
