It has been proposed that this envelope may be the product of accretion due to a massive cooling flow. Our ROSAT PSPC and HRI data show a large X-ray emitting envelope of gas at about 5 keV, with a filamentary structure which is consistent with the hypothesis of a cooling flow. The proposed ASCA observation, combined with the ROSAT data will allow us to measure accurately temperature and metallicity of this gas and determine the origin of the X-ray emission and the extended red envelope around the galaxy. If the hypothesis of the cooling flow is confirmed, this would be the first case in which the bulk of the cooling flow material is seen. Co-Is: 1 Y.
