SUMMARY OF PROPOSAL 42005 DR. NANCY S. While the previously obtained ASCA spectrum has been difficult to fit with any temperature model, including models derived from non-simultaneous EUVE observations, the situation can be ameliorated by using a simultaneous EUVE spectrum to determine the differential emission measure. Simultaneity is critical, as EUVE observations have shown variability by factors of 3 to 4 in the emission measures above ten million K. ASCA then provides a direct measurement of the relative Si, S, and Fe abundances, in addition to constraints on the highest temperature emission.Fits to the ASCA spectrum will provide other abundances as well.
