Abstract: RS CVn binaries with white dwarf companions are in a different evolutionary stage compared to classical RS CVns and appear anomalous in X-rays. Three such binaries, FF Aqr, 39 Cet and 29 Dra, have high X-ray luminosities (log Lx = 31.3 - 31.5), and ROSAT PSPC spectra of two of them show different temperatures compared to classical RS CVns. A compact star in such binaries could provide conditions for the mass accreted from the late-type star to emit X-rays competing with the coronal X-ray emission from active late-type companion. ASCA spectra will allow us to determine their spectral components, measure coronal abundances, and allow comparison to be made with the existing spectra of higher-gravity RS CVns and other similar systems without compact companions.
