SUMMARY OF PROPOSAL 42119 DR. HERMAN L. MARSHALL EUREKA SCIENTIFIC, INC. CA USA 94602 OAKLAND 2452 DELMER ST., SUITE 100 E-mail: HERMANM@USA1.COM Tel: (617) 862-1221 Fax: (617) 860-7346 Medium: 2GB8MM Subject: AGN Title: COORDINATED OBSERVATIONS OF THE NARROW LINE SEYFERT 1 GALAXY 1H0419-577 Abstract: Narrow line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1s) have become an important class of AGN with the discovery that they are more variable and have steeper soft X-ray spectra than other AGN (Boller et al., 1995). It is possible that this correlation is an effect of geometry or viewing angle but there may be a physical difference between the broad- and narrow-lined AGN as might happen if NLS1s have smaller central black hole masses. We propose two short observations of the NLS1 1H0419-577 to be coordinated with (approved) ROSAT HRI and (to be proposed) EUVE observations in order to obtain two single-epoch spectra from 0.1 to 10 keV. This NLS1 was found in both the EUVE and HEAO-A all sky surveys; thus both soft and hard X-ray components will be measured in this campaign and monitored for variability.
