PULSED X-RAY FROM PSR B0833-45

ABSTRACT

PSR B0833-45 (Vela pulsar) is a proto-type of rotation-powered pulsar together with the Crab pulsar. Our understanding of the pulsars is basically based on these two pulsars. PSR B0833-45 is very luminous in Gamma-rays, but X-ray pulsation was detected only very recently by ROSAT. We estimated ASCA detection limit of pulsed X-ray flux from PSR0833-45 based on the outer gap model and pulsed black body component detected by ROSAT PSPC. We found that ASCA SIS can detect the pulsed black body with good statistics. Detection of outer gap emission by GIS may be marginal. Studies of the pulsation from PSR B0833-45 in higher energy band with ASCA will play an important role in improving our knowledge of the emission mechanism of the pulsars.
