LMC survey

ABSTRACT

Large Magelanic Cloud has extremely ideal characters for the systematic study of X-ray sources. The aims and expected fruit of this survey are (1) Comprehensive study of X-ray source populations, which reflect the star-formation history in the Magellanic Clouds, (2) Discovery of new X-ray pulsars, (3) Discovery of non-thermal X-ray emission from SNRs, which leads to a quantitative estimation of cosmic ray acceleration in SNRs, and (4) To obtain the complete X-ray images including both discrete sources and diffuse X-rays. In the Post-AO8 phase, we will observe six regions where bright ROSAT sources remain to be observed.
