These files are suitable only for the preperation of proposals, and reflect the best understanding of the XIS as of 2004 July, while the calibration effort is still ongoing. They are therefore not suitable for the analysis of actual in-flight data.

There are two units of XIS with a frontside illuminated (FI) CCD, and and two units with a backside illuminated (BI) CCD. We provide an RMF and an ARF for each type of XIS. The effective areas are for one unit of XIS. The XIS ARF includes the transmission of the thermal shield and the XRT-I effective area, for a point source observed at the XRT optical axis. The XIS RMF includes the transmission of the optical blocking filter (OBF) and the quantum efficiency of the CCD.

• XIS RMF:
  • xrs_FI_ao1.rmf and
  • xrs_BI_ao1.rmf
  These RMFs have been created based on Astro-E and Astro-E2 XIS calibration data of the OBF transmission, the CCD quantum efficiency and the energy response. The incident energy range covered is 0.2-12 keV, which may be changed in the future. The input energy step of the matrix (dE) is set to be proportional to each channel's center energy (E).

• XIS ARF:
  • xis_FI_onaxis_ao1.arf and
  • xis_BI_onaxis_ao1.arf
  An ARF for a point source observed on-axis; the effective area is for the Au-coated XRT-I integrated over a circular region with a 6 mm (4.34 arcmin) radius.
