XRS Responses for Simulations
These files are suitable only for the preperation of proposals.
Do not use them for analysis of actual data.
Both the RMF and ARF files are necessary for simulation
of data. The XRS ARF includes the transmission of the thermal
shield, the XRT-S effective area, and the transmission of the
filters on the wheel (unless "open"), while the XRS RMF
includes the transmission of the blocking filter and the quantum efficiency
of the absorbers.
- XRS RMF (xrs_ao1.rmf)
Instrumental broadening is modeled using a single Gaussian function, and
assumed to have a 6.5 eV FWHM resolution throughout the entire energy range
(0-16.384 keV). The energy bin size is 0.5 eV, and the channel bin size is
1.0 eV.
- XRS ARF (xrs_onaxis_open_ao1.arf)
An ARF for a point source observed on-axis; the effective area is for
the Au-coated XRT-S integrated over the 30 active XRS pixels (i.e.,
this excludes the "CAL pixel," No.3, and the non-connected channel,
No.2). The pixel size of the XRS is 624 um and the gap size is 16 um.
The filter wheel is set to the "open" position.
For the 10% neutral density filter, use this ARF and multiply the
result by 0.0953. This is the actual measured transmission of the filter,
which is indeed energy-independent to the systematic accuracy of the
calibration (~0.1%).
- XRS ARF (xrs_onaxis_be_ao1.arf)
Same as xrs_onaxis_open_ao1.arf, but the filter wheel position
is set to "Be."
