  Title: VERIFICATION OF THE HARD X-RAY SPECTROSCOPIC METHOD OF MEASURING THE WHITE DWARF MASS IN MAGNETIC CATACLYSMIC VARIABLES.


Abstract:
 We have recently developed a hard X-ray spectroscopic method of determining the mass
 of the white dwarf in Magnetic Cataclysmic Variables (MCVs). This method is more
 advantageous than the conventional method using the dynamical motion of the binary
 components in that our method just utilizes the depth of gravitational potential of
 the white dwarf and hence applicable to all the MCVs irrespective of whether they
 are eclipsing systems or not. We propose to observe the eclipsing system XY Ari
 additionally 80ksec in order to establish the reliability of our new method by
 comparing with the traditional dynamical motion method.
