Subject: SUPERNOVA REMNANTS AND GALACTIC DIFFUSE EMISSION
Title: TWO PULSAR POWERED SUPERNOVA REMNANTS

Abstract:
The association of neutron stars with supernova remnants (SNR) is a cornerstone of
stellar astrophysics. Radio pulsars are confirmed to be associated with only a dozen
Galactic remnants. An indirect but equally effective way of inferring their presence
in SNR is via observations of pulsar powered wind nebulae (or plerions). Each new
study of pulsar powered SNR has shed light on the birth spin periods and initial
magnetic fields of neutron stars. A complete census of plerionic SNR is therefore
necessary. ASCA with its broad response, high energy sensitivity and fine spectral
resolution is unique for study of such combination remnants. Herein we propose to
study two remnants with morphological telltale signs of plerionic activity: MSH 11$-$62 and G~327.1$-$1.1.
